The myth of the pleasantly transparent society

SurveillanceShortly, Competitive Futures will release a report on the future of Big Brother Technologies. Between facial recognition software, satellites, cameras and biometrics, we are alarmed at how much our social systems need to evolve to properly manage these new technologies.

In the meantime, read Bruce Schneier's thoughts on "the myth of the transparent society." The real question is about the power imbalance between authorities and individuals, and how a real dialogue is necessary at once.
